About Us
A Brief History of Imber Court Bowling Club
Imber Court Bowling Club was founded in 1959 as an integral part of the Metropolitan Police Imber Court Sports Club.
In the beginning membership was restricted to serving and retired members of the Metropolitan Police Force, as it was then known.
Although required to be a mixed club, there were no lady members until an independent ladies section was formed in 2000. Then, in 2009 the two gender sections were amalgamated to form the one fully mixed club we have today.
Membership has now been extended beyond the Metropolitan Police Service. Currently we have many members from the local community and we look to increase our membership through advertising and the annual Open Day.
As a bowling club we have a reputation for being one of the friendliest and welcoming in the area. To this end we operate a mentoring scheme for all new members whether experienced or a novice. This scheme is designed to make the joining experience as enjoyable and rewarding as possible.
Membership of the bowling club automatically incorporates membership of the main sports club* thus allowing access to the many functional and recreational facilities of that club, including the use of a large modern bar, cafeteria and dining area. For more information about the main sports club see:
* Fees are payable for both.

Care of The Bowling Green
For members to enjoy their bowling experience, care of the green is of the utmost importance. At Imber Court Bowling Club we have a team of 8 to 10 members who give of their time and effort to keep the bowling green in good condition.
The picture on the right illustrates the effect of maintenance at the end of the season when the green is subjected to “hollow tining” using a Groundsman 345 machine before the thatch is removed with the help of a Graden machine.
The ground on the left of the picture above shows the result of hollow tining whereas the section on the right illustrates the result after the Graden machine has done its work.
The picture on the left shows the green after all the thatch has been cleared and the green is then facing a winter program of maintenance before play resumes in April of the following year.
